One of the greatest alive sculptors, Novello Finotti, comes to Teloglion Foundation of Arts on Friday, February 7, 2020.
The exhibition will present a representative set of his works (ex. 70 works) most in large scale marble (10 of which exceed 2.50 meters).
Finotti (born in Verona in 1939) is one of the most important contemporary sculptors equal in stature to Giacometti, Miro, or Dali, a group of 20th-century artists who have influenced and will continue to influence contemporary sculpture in expression, technique and conception. He was discovered by Iolas in 1972, exhibited at his gallery in Milan and New York, almost in parallel with other artists (Takis, Matta, De Chirico, Magritte). When Iolas brought him to Athens, Finotti came into close contact with ancient Greek sculpture and was greatly influenced by it. Ever since, he has been working with marble. Finotti has taken large orders of works in Italy, in Verona, Padova, in particular when he undertook to realize the sculptural decoration for Pope John XXIII at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome (2001).
In 1976 he participated in the exhibition "il Bronzetto Italiano" in Rome, which traveled to Finland, Denmark and Norway. He has exhibited individually as well as in major groups at the Venice Biennale, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, San Paolo / Brasil, Osaka, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Berlin, Lugano, New York, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, London and more.
Teloglion’s exhibition, emphasizes in the importance of his skillful technique in marble, related to his apprenticeship in traditional Italian marble sculptors, especially the work of Carrara marble, as well as in the influence of Greek antiquity on his work. The exhibition will be accompanied by a large number of parallel events as well as special educational programs.
Duration: 7 February 2020 - 14 June 2020.
The exhibition is under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic and the opening will be held by Mrs. Lina Mendoni, Minister of Culture and Sports.
